Reading Notes[[Andersen's Fairy Tales and Stories, Part A]]

[SOME SPOILERS]
The Queen/Old Crone-Pinterest
1. The Princess and the Pea: The mother desperate for her son to marry finds a "unreal" princess and tells her to lie about herself. In doing so it causes the mother to become an old crone. The "unreal" princess said because of her lying and wicked ways she was now cursed. Also, that the prince deserved/needed the truth. The now old crone new that a real princess could not lie. Giving her a pea as a token of thanks and well wishes. The princess eats it and falls asleep.

  • Snow White inspired.

2. The Emperor's New Suit: Oh my goodness...ha ha! This story is one priceless read. Definitely tells of social fear ad the follower mentality. It was very entertaining.
3. The Brave Tin Soldier: Tun soldier are the soldiers in The Nutcracker. They helped to save the little girl from the rat/mouse and defeated him. They are unwrapped by the little girl as an early birthday gift from parents. As a way to make her feel better about being ill on Christmas. They tell her that they are meant to guard her and make her feel better.

  • Somehow include mouse in story.
  • Brainstorm more!
4. The Wicked Prince: I'm not sure what to think of this story. All I know is that the prince is an absolute fool to think he could "conquer" God. I mean, for pete's sake, God made heaven and Earth, the universe and everything according to the scriptures. Silly prince.

5. The Little Match-Seller: How sad. I wan to give the girl a better ending instead of death. Maybe a kindly old woman with a heart of gold and an understanding of the little girls predicament sees her. Then invites her to stay in her draft old house with a warm fire. That is were they bond with one another and they pull their resources together to sell bread and matches. Little girl never goes back to abusive household (and never dies) and the woman gets a constant companion, which she desperately needs.
  • Happy girl.
  • No death.
  • No abuse.
  • Title: Little Match Seller Finds a Home.
Basically, a happy ending to a fairy tale. De-synthesized version.

Fairy tales are wonderful (I love OUAT).
