Reading Notes: [[Rasmussen's Eskimo Folktales, Part B]]

[SOME SPOILERS]
Lots of Confusing Stories-CLKER
1. Makite: Really hard story to read. Mainly because there seems to be extra words in every sentence ad there is absolutely no descriptions. Dwarfs and dogs make appearances and I have no clue why... Hmm...
2. Atungait, Who Went A-Wandering: I thought the strong woman was made the characters wife, early on in the story? Geez, I hate this... Maybe I'm just confused by everything today.

  • Strong woman is a spell Atungait's wife (who is a secret witch) sends to him to show where his heart truly lies.
  • He finds out his wife is a witch when she confronts him and vice-versa (He is wizard).
3. The Giant Dog: Amulet makes dog into a boy (think Pinocchio).
Alaskan Dog-Etsy

  • Dog was killed by inland dwellers that kidnap women because they killed the dog/man's wife.
  • His wife's death happened before he was turned into a dog.
4. Papik, Who Killed His Wife's Brother: Snow monster kills mans brother, man then kills snow monster to avenge the death. When Papik gets back from avenging the death  his mother is dead (she blames him for his brothers death) and she was killed by the snow monsters child and so was Papik.

  • Villain wins scenario.
5. Patussorssuaq, Who Killed His Uncle: The legend of the arctic
Arctic Fox-FineArtAmerica
fox Soul of Alatag (I think that is spelled right) and the magic of the amulet (story centers around this).

6. The Wife Who Lied: Navaranapaluk is a vampire. Men and women who survived were both vampires Navaranapaluk is the leader of the vampires.
7. The Eagle and the Whale: The brothers transform into whale and eagle. In there forms they don't know what they do until they are back to being human. There sister goes to an ice capped mountain, while they are transformed. They trade there sister to a monster for some food and that's where the monster lives. They realize what they have done when they have transformed back and go to a wizard boy to undo their actions. Also, they ask the boy how they could rid themselves of the curse.

  • Boy replies (Brainstorm!)
  • What an odd and confusing ending (to the actual story)!
8. Atdlarneq, The Great Glutton: I like the idea of coming up with something about they yellow clad women. I'm just not sure how I could center a story around a color. Hmm... I will have to think about this one.
9. Angangujuk: Doesn't seem like to the woman got her son killed at all! Why must it ALWAYS be the women who is threatened!(RANT OVER).
10. Atarssuaq: No Story Ideas.
11. Tungujuluk and Saunikoq:
Story Love-GalleryHip

  • Good Vs Evil wizard battle.
  • Match. Make it seem like a televised event.
  • Title: Battle of Wizards?
  • Use magic as weaponry.
  • Location: Arctic. Eskimo Wizards?
  • Details in story
A different and fresh idea could be interesting.
12. Kanagssuaq: No Story Ideas. My favorite story during this weeks reading. Has a great lesson and meaning behind the story.
